500 trailrunners at the 3rd edition of the Rosengarten Schlern Skymarathon

The local, national and international running elite met on 13 July 2019 at the Rosengarten-Schlern Skymarathon in Tiers/South Tyrol/Italy. Of the 508 registered runners, 471 from 12 nations competed effectively. The trail run around the Rosengarten-Schlern massif, supported by Dynafit, is highly praised by the athletes.

The winners were Julia Kessler from Merano (6:05.55,8) and Andreas Rüedlinger from Switzerland (5:13.,8) on the 45 km long track without asphalt. Adela Stranska from the Czech Republic (4:16.43,8) ahead of last year's winner Susi Lell is the winner of the short distance (36 kilometres) from the Grasleiten Pass over the Tschamintal back to Tiers; in the men's race the Dynafit athlete Daniele Felicetti from Predazzo won with a sensational time and a new track record; he ran the 36 kilometres in three and a half hours. (3:26.54,6).
After the Rosengarten was covered in clouds in the morning, the weather was also very nice for the third edition. Visibly relieved that the third edition was also held with optimal running conditions for the athletes and without major incidents and much praise for the organizers, the OC boss Bernhard Rieder is relieved and says: "I am overjoyed about the course of the race and thank the sponsors and around 200 volunteers without whom such an event would not be possible. We have reached the maximum number of registrations, which makes us very happy, but 500 plus invited ones is and remains our limit. The Rosengarten Schlern Skymarathon will always be small, but we will stay fine and are already looking forward to the 4th edition on 11 July 2020".

The long route of 45 kilometres with a 2,980 metre ascent and a 3,083 metre descent leads over the Cigolade Pass (variant towards Ciamedie and Gardeccia if unviable), the Passo Principe/Grasleitenpass and the Molignon Pass to the Sciliar; after the Devil's Gorge - also known as the Prügelweg – a final ascent leads up to the Tschafon before the finish line in the centre of the village of Tiers.
Due to its length and the difference in altitude it is a mountain marathon. The name "Sky Marathon" describes the length and alpine characteristics of the trail run at over 2,000 metres.
