400 trail runners from 28 nations took part in the seventh edition of the Rosengarten-Schlern Sky Marathon in Tiers/South Tyrol/Italy on 13 July 2024.

The majority of the athletes come from Italy, Germany and numerous other European countries, but the starting field also included individual sports enthusiasts from Australia, Brazil, China, the USA and Argentina.

The trail run, supported by Dynafit, leads from St. Zyprian via Plafötsch and the Hanicker Schwaige up to the Köllner Hütte, before circling the Rosengarten massif.

"Great course, even though I had stomach cramps today and suffered more than I enjoyed," said the overjoyed winner of the short course Lukas Mangger from Ratschings with a time of 3:40.33.3. The fastest lady on the short course was Severine Petersen from Germany with a time of 4:33.10.2. She also had cramps, but was totally thrilled with the course and thanked the organisers.

Local hero Daniel Pattis was the beaming winner on the long course without tarmac with a great time of 4:49.36.4. "It was ideal to run today and I felt good right from the start. It's nice to run a race in front of a home crowd."  "This race is fantastic, but also brutal!" said last year's winner on the short course Anne-Catherine Rigort from Switzerland, who set a new record on the long course this year with a time of 6:08.

OC boss Bernhard Rieder was visibly relieved that the seventh edition went off without incident and with much praise for the organisers despite the capricious weather the day before: "I am overjoyed with how the race went and would like to thank the OC team, the sponsors and the many volunteers, without whom such an event would not be possible". The next edition will take place on 12 July 2025.

Due to its length and the difference in altitude it is a mountain marathon. The name "Sky Marathon" describes the length and alpine characteristics of the trail run at over 2,000 metres.
